There was a story this week about a 66-year-old former director of Iowa’s Department of Human Services who resigned shortly following an email he sent out to 4,300 employees containing a suggestion to listen to some Tupac to celebrate the late great artist’s birthday. He would also have “Tupac Fridays” where he would listen to Tupac in his office and would bake cookies. However, it has since come out that despite sending numerous emails with Tupac lyrics in them and constantly praising the artist, his resignation was completely unrelated. His former employer has even gone so far as to put out a statement that he was let go not related in any way with his Tupac infatuation. I think it is really important to note in this story that he was not let go due to his emails involving Tupac lyrics to other employees. That doesn’t seem like a thing you can get fired for and is probably covered in like the First Amendment or something. But you definitely can’t get fired for sending rap lyrics out via email to your co-workers. That would just be crazy right? Surely not legal, and no one who regularly sends rap lyrics out to co-workers or listens to music too loudly at his desk can be fired for doing so. If I worked in HR or something I wouldn’t even look into it because it is so obviously not something you can fire a person for, might even be something that you would reward an employee for, as like a moral boosting activity for the company.
R. Kelly is back in the news for the usual reasons pertaining to his sex cult and grooming of underage girls, he was indicted on 13 felony charges. It must be bittersweet news for Kelly as he faces felony charges but they feature his favorite number; 13.
Last but not least, rapper Blueface had both of his girlfriends get matching hand tattoos of Benjamin Franklin, which is a reminder that he and I lead very different lives.
