Mental Health Awareness Month

Rapper Big Boi (half of OutKast), helped put together the Sound Mind Music Festival for Mental Health in Central Park earlier this month. The festival aims to raise funds and awareness for mental health services and help provide support for a petition for increased funding in response to the federal government’s creation of a new three-digit code for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: Starting July 16, people in need will be able to dial 988 to reach the lifeline. When people call the line we will need increased support systems for those people who are in need of help. Big Boi is involved in part because of the issues his father had with alcohol and the demons associated with that battle. He said “It’s always good to let people know that people care about them, and you’re not alone. And it’s always good to speak to somebody if you’re going through something.”

“All the while, I'll await my armored fate with a smile
Still wanna try, still believe in
Good days, good days, always
Always inside (Always in my mind, always in my mind, mind)
Good day living in my mind”

SZA recently gave up TikTok for Mental Health Awareness Month after all the harassment she has received on social media. I think when people look at artists they tend to think “well just don’t go online” but often they are contractually obligated to be on these platforms promoting their brand. They have to be on these platforms pretending everything is fine while getting harassed by psychotic fans who feel comfortable hurling threats and insults when anonymous. She told the people harassing her “HAVE A COCKMEAT SANDWICH AND A MERRY CHRISTMAS.”
